After lack of sleep in an uncomfortable bed worrying about todays 3 massive hill climbs we set off, the wonderful valencian sun was just breaking through the clouds for the day and we were soon upon our first hill, it went well, my legs felt surprisingly fresh and we we’re soon stripping off as not to overheat.
We found ourselves in the middle of nowhere, just the small herds deer and birds to keep us company, it was bliss. We soon reached the top of our first hill, about 1000m, the giant wind turbines looming above and to the sides of us, the noise they make is strange and frightening so we were glad to be making our way down the other side.
We soon hit the second hill, after a quick coffee break we were ready for it, again all alone in the middle of nowhere admiring the alpine plants, it was as if we were making our way through Heidi’s garden. As we reach the peak a large delivery van passed us the driver laughing and waving at us, yeah, we know we’re mad!
After another decent the third hill loomed, my legs still felt fresh but phil was feeling the pain and was slowing, we reached the top glided along the plateau not looking down at the drops to either side and breathed a sigh of relief to be heading downwards.
We cycled into Ontinyent to stay the night but the only accommodation was full so after a wasted 2 hours we carried on to Agres where we found a delighful pension in the foothills of the sierra mariola mountains.
